What is Ultrasonic Testing?
This procedure describes the requirements of and the method used for Ultrasonic Examination of welds and base metal materials (pipe, plate, forging, castings, etc.) using pulse echo, straight beam (longitudinal wave) and angle beam (shear wave) inspection. Material thicknesses examined using this procedure range from 1/8" to 8" and material shapes /sizes are flat surfaces and cylindrical surfaces ranging from 1/2" to 72" in diameter. Materials range from carbon Steels and Alloy steel, to stainless steels (austenitic, ferritic or duplex) Copper alloys, Nickel Alloys and Aluminum Alloys. Materials outside these parameters may also be inspected. These parameters will appear in the inspection report.
